Ingredients

Nonstick vegetable oil spray
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Spray 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan with vegetable oil spray. Whisk applesauce, syrup, oil, egg and vanilla in large bowl until blended. Sift flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and salt into applesauce mixture. Stir to blend. Transfer batter to prepared pan. Bake cake until edges pull away from sides of pan and tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 28 minutes. Transfer pan to rack and cool cake completely. Cut into 12 pieces and serve.
