The flavor and texture of these chewy confections are even better if they are allowed to rest overnight.

Alternative Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies

The "alternative" is the addition of oat bran.

Almond Meringues

(GERMINUS) Sardinia has many interestingly named sweets, and these cookies called germinus are the most famous of all. They are flatter and chewier than classic meringues and get a crisp accent from the nuts.

Island Macaroons

These cookies have a wonderful texture; chewy yet crunchy-just like a candy bar.

White Chocolate Mousse with Blackberries

Dark chocolate never goes out of fashion, but white chocolate was all the rage in the eighties. Foodies couldn't get enough, enjoying it in truffles, tarts and sumptuous ivory-colored mousses like this one.

Almond Meringues

This recipe makes more meringue than you'll need for 8 servings. You can pipe the extra into sticks and bake them to eat as a snack. Active time: 45 min Start to finish: 2 1/2 hr

Croissant Dough

It's important not to try to halve this recipe. When you need only a half recipe of dough, as for the pains au chocolat, use the rest of the dough for a batch of Parma braids or a princess ring. Or make a double recipe of those irresistible chocolate croissants and share them with friends. One batch of this dough is enough for 24 plain croissants, 32 chocolate croissants, 16 Parma braids, or 2 princess rings.

S'more Tart

Coffee-Pecan Meringue Ice Cream Sandwiches

Delicate cookies and purchased ice cream produce a grown-up version of a playground favorite.

Easter Bread

Most of the Christian Mediterranean cultures have some form of rich, festive egg bread that they prepare for the Holy Week before Easter. This is when pinze were made at our house. It is a tradition that is still strong in the Veneto region of Italy. The panettone and colomba cakes often found in the country today are derivatives of pinza. Making good pinza requires some understanding of leavening and bread making, which I have carefully described below. It also requires patience, because the dough, rich with eggs and butter, requires several long risings. Serve slices of pinza with espresso, tea, or, in the morning, with caffè latte. For a richer dessert, top with whipped cream or mascarpone and berries, or enjoy it as is on a wonderful festive table or for brunch on Easter Sunday. The loaves keep well for one week at room temperature if sealed in plastic wrap for six to eight weeks in the freezer. For the effort, it pays to make a larger quantity and enjoy for weeks after.

Coconut Bundt Cake with Powdered-Sugar Glaze

Coconut milk, which gives a velvety texture to this pound cake, can be found in the Asian foods section of the supermarket.
